Ratings & Reviews

Not what I was expecting

Firstly, I'm usually a big fan of PC and have absolutely loved all the other products I've bought over the years, to be point of recommending to friends and family. However, this one really doesn't work for me, leaving my skin feeling quite tight (a little itchy even) and lacking the moisturising feeling I expected. The description states it's a 'thick moisturiser', which I didn't find to be the case, and was disappointed with the consistency as I found it to be quite the opposite, i.e. very thin and runny.

Love it!

Although this moisturiser can feel a little light weight in winter, by adding a couple of drops of the oil booster, it's perfect. I usually mix this cream with three drops of the Vitamin C and my skin feels and looks terrific in the morning. It's my favourite by far as a night cream as it's the only moisturiser PC makes these days that doesn't contain silicones which I don't find too helpful. I agree that it can feel a little sticky after application but I wear it to bed so it hardly matters!

Pleasantly Surprised

Firstly, my skin's backstory: I would say it is combo/sensitive with visible pores in the t-zone but dehydrated and flaky in areas, which is as difficult to treat as it sounds! It is usually reasonably well behaved in the acne stakes, but can be prone to non-inflamed comedones and whiteheads if I use products that it doesn't like. I have been having a lot of trouble finding a moisturiser which is rich enough to hydrate my skin, and deal with the flakes without causing the aforementioned comedones and whiteheads, as well as not cause the pores in my t-zone to become more visible! Enter Earth Sourced Moisturiser... I have probably been using it for about 2.5-3 weeks now. I have used Paula products (BHAs, AHAs, moisturising gel when I was younger and had quite oily skin) in the past and I like her approach to skin care and no-fuss products but I found the BHAs and AHAs, while doing a great job at getting rid of red marks were contributing to flakiness, dehydration and irritation in my skin. This is not just Paula's exfoliants, but any chemical exfoliants have the same effect, my skin just doesn't like them! But since I stopped them I am still dehydrated and flaky in areas. So anyway, I rang the help line for suggestions and the girl on the other end suggested a few different things (hydra light, skin recovery toner and this moisturiser). I was a bit skeptical about the earth sourced moisturiser but it became my fast favourite and the other samples got left in the dust! So much so that I ordered a heap more samples of this and plan on ordering a full size soon. I didn't want to have to fuss too much with a million steps because I have found that a benign neglect approach works the best for my skin, and less is definitely more! How I use it: I only wash my face once every few days at night (don't judge) otherwise it gets really dehydrated and flaky (I have not met a cleanser it liked, even the low lather, cream and sensitive ones). I either use just water or a cleansing balm if I have eye makeup on (I don't really wear foundation for everyday). Then I use a small amount of this moisturiser, just in the areas where I usually feel really dry. It sinks in quickly, my skin feels neither tight nor dry, just totally comfortable and soft. I wake up the next morning with zero tightness or flakiness (which has always been a problem for me). If I do have to wear foundation I get no flakiness under it (also a perpetual problem for me). The smell is neutral and actually quite a nice smell in my opinion. It does everything a basic moisturiser should do, and its a bonus that it is mostly natural. I have not had any clogged pores or whiteheads or extra oiliness or problems with sensitivity since using this (they will usually show up in a matter of days for me). It is exactly what I was looking for- a simple moisturiser that does what it claims to do, and provides lasting hydration. I have even been able to splash my face with water and not get any of the dry tightness that used to plague me in the past! Thanks Paula, this is a winner for me! I also found the toner to be lovely and gentle too. My only gripe is the packaging, I think it would do better in an airless pump bottle, being full of antioxidants.

Not very moisturizing

This product I wouldn't recommend for 'all skin types' as it is stated. I am a normal to slightly dry skin type. This is a product more suited to oiler skins who don't need as much hydration on their faces. After using it for a good few months I found it to be drying on certain areas of my face , which is somethingIi seldom experience. I had to discontinue use because of this, which was a shame.I like the idea and concept of this product 'earth sourced' and it was partly why i bought it. I purchased because this is the only Vegan moisturizer the PC offers as the others contain lanolin that is derived from sheep which I do not support. So if your quite oily this is the product for you, if not , look elsewhere.

Hoped for more

I was looking for a moisturiser without sunscreen which was helpful for rosacea for normal skin. The other Paula Choice moisturisers I tried for rosacea were too light or too heavy. Unfortunately, this product made me break out. I tried a number of times with the same result.

Surprisingly moisturising given the texture

I have sensitive combination skin prone to breakouts and live in a humid climate. This product does not break me out, calms redness, and is a very effective moisturiser for where I live. It is light and absorbent and lasts a long time, however I prefer 'pump' packaging. Occasionally I feel light stinging/sensitivity after application which I do not experience with other PC products. I am on my second tube but for my next purchase I will try the Resist Anti-Aging Clear Skin Hydrator.

HG moisturizer

I tried three different moisturizers from PC (Moisture Boost and Resist Barrier Repair) and this one was by far my favorite. It provides the perfect amount of moisture for my skin, leaving me feeling hydrated and dewy - never greasy. You do not need to use much of this product - it is light but incredibly hydrating. It is the only moisturizer that keeps my skin clear (I use this am+pm , + at night I use the 2% BHA liquid with this on top). Holy grail moisturizer- I hope it's never discontinued!!

Updated Review

I have previously reviewed this product and I stated that this moisturizer was not strong enough for my really dry skin. Well I have since then purchased a full version of this moisturizer and I now layer it. In the morning I put this on and then I put the Cerave AM SPF 30 moisturizer on top. This has evened out my skin tone and made my skin fell so wonderful! If you have tried this and thought it wasn't enough try it with the Cerave AM on top! I will repurchase!

It didn't break me out. It is moisturizing, you just have to use more than with some products. It didn't immediately irritate my skin, but I have some rosacea, and when I used this product, my face was more prone to flushing throughout the day than when I wasn't using it. I was hoping this would be the one product that, even if I didn't love it, couldn't really fail.

A lovely natural product

I have been using Paula's Choice moisturizers for 10 years now, but this one is my favorite. Not only do I love the list of ingredients, it also feels great on my face. I have a dry/combination skin prone to breakouts, with some mild eczema on top. In wintertime, it becomes very dry. I have found that this product works for me throughout the year: light, yet sufficiently moisturizing. Love the natural antioxidants!
