A synthetic colouring agent that utilizes a combination of colours to create its red hue. Also known as D&C Red No. 28, this colouring agent is certified by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use in drugs and cosmetics. Each batch must be certified before it is used in cosmetics, which ensures it meets quality and purity standards.
It’s considered safe in the concentrations used in cosmetics, but is not used in products meant for application around the eyes.
