Additional Information

Why is it different?
SKIN BALANCING Oil-Absorbing Mask contains an exclusive mix of natural clays plus skin-restoring and soothing ingredients to balance and revitalise combination, oily skin.
Collapse
What does it do?
Balances skin by visibly absorbing excess oil without over-drying or making skin feel tight. The clay’s gentle drawing action helps dislodge debris from congested pores while soothing plant extracts help visibly calm skin. Rinses easily, leaving skin soft, matte, and smooth. Best of all, it is free of stress-causing ingredients, such as menthol, peppermint, or alcohol, which can make oily skin worse.
Collapse
How to use

Use on clean skin. Apply a generous layer all over the face and neck (if needed). Let dry for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with tepid-to-warm water. May be used as often as needed. Those with oily to very oily skin can use this mask several times per week, while those with normal to slightly oily skin can use it less frequently (once or twice per week, for example).

Absorbs lots of oil but stings

4

I have a love/hate relationship with this mask. It is extremely effective at shifting excess oil from my skin and it clears out my sebaceous filements on my nose and chin really well. When the mask dries there are lots of little dark circles where you can see the oil has been pulled out of the pores. However it is also slightly irritating, it stings slightly by the end of the 15 minutes that I leave it on and the skin is always pink underneath when I wash it off. Because it's more effective than anything else I've found for my sebaceous filaments I keep using it. I tend to use it twice a week and only across my tzone as it dries out my cheeks too much. On other nights I use the 2% BHA Liquid to keep the sebaceous filaments to a minimum.

Very oil absorbing but stings

3

I've bought this product before years ago when it first came out and it stung my skin so gave to friend. I was wondering if after all this time maybe Paula had updated the formula or my skin might not sting this time so I got a sample which I used this morning. The mask is smooth and went on nicely, I applied it generously all over my face an neck, it turned hard in about five minutes and I washed it off after ten. I first washed my face with a Paula's choice cleanser and then used a Paul'as choice toner which in hindsight using the toner was silly because I had to wash off the mask and then reapply the toner. When I first applied the mask to my skin it started to sting and then turned slightly red and then subsided. I don't know why my skin is sensitive to this. Sigh. I love Paula's products and have been using them since she first started making them. I wished this mask worked for me but I don't want to use this if it irritates my skin. Definitely use it if it doesn't irritate your skin because it absorbed all my oil and made my face feel like "normal" skin, not oily and smoothed out all of my fine lines but get a sample first. I hope the formula gets an update one day so I can use it. It seems other people complain about the stinging too.

Great mask but stay away if you have sensitive skin

1

I have been using Paula's Choice for over 10 years and have previously purchased this product before (over 5 years ago). The formula must have changed as whilst using this my face immediately started burning and my eyes were watering from the pain. Sadly this product left my face irritated and red for a few days and contrary to the marketing, definitely does not "reduce irritation". Having tried the product previously and been impressed with the results i was excited to receive this product only to be sadly disappointed at the outcome. The product has since sat in my bathroom unused. I would not recommend this product to anyone based on the reaction I had to it. Its not worth the risk to my skin and is a waste of money. I speak very highly of PC normally, but this product is a real disappointment.

Burned and irritated my skin!

1

I got this mask as part of the Advanced Skin Balancing Kit and I used the rest of the kit for a whole week before trying the mask. The rest of the kit is amazing! In less than a week I'm now makeup free every day and my skin looks clear and smooth. Tonight I tried the mask for the first time and immediately after applying it my skin began to burn and sting. I rinsed it off but it has left my skin red and then applying my toner and BHA liquid made my skin sting even more! Proceed with caution. I won't be using this mask again and I don't even have sensitive skin. The rest of the kit is incredible though and gets 5 stars!

My husband and 15 year old son both have very oily skin, they use this at least once a week, and their skin always looks clearer and cleaner.

Steer clear if you have sensitive skin!

1

Was gifted this by my sister a little while ago. I usually love a clay mask but unfortunately this one will be going in the bin. Used it according to instructions. I should've washed it off immediately when it started writing a bit but it was only a light sting so I risked it. Although it did dry up a couple of little pimples I had. And it did soften my skin a bit. It was not worth it my skin was red and has been itchy for 2 days now. The skin on my jawline is the most itchy and has broken out into little hives. Be careful if you have at all sensitive skin. Mine is usually ok with a 10 min mask but this definitely caused irritation.

Good staple mask for oily skin

4

I really enjoy this mask - nothing groundbreaking for my very oily skin, but my skin feels improved after using it. I like to use it just over my T zone and problem areas, so the tube will last a while yet, but I plan to repurchase when it eventually runs out!
