Frequently asked questions

Have questions about face Peptides? We’ve got you covered!

Which Paula’s Choice peptide is best for sensitive skin?

Peptides are generally well tolerated by all skin types, including those with sensitive skin. At Paula’s Choice we adhere to strict formulary standards including omitting potential skin irritants such as fragrance and sensitising ingredients. We also fortify our formulas with antioxidants and skin-soothing ingredients, which means all our peptide products are suitable for sensitive skin.

If your skin is extra-sensitive and prone to redness or rosacea, or if you’ve never used peptides before, we always recommend starting slowly with application every other day to see how your skin responds. You may want to try a product that does not mix peptides with other active ingredients (such as retinol, vitamin C or AHA) like our Pro-Collagen Multi-Peptide Booster to see how your skin responds to these safe, gentle ingredients.

What products or ingredients shouldn’t you mix with peptides?

Research shows that peptides and other skin care ingredients can (and should!) generally be used together, meaning they can be mixed or layered as you see fit.

The only current research about not mixing peptides with other skin care ingredients involves a specific type called copper peptides, which Paula’s Choice does not use. These peptides should generally not be mixed with vitamin C, as they can diminish its effectiveness.

To counteract this, if you use a product with copper peptides, you can alternate that with your vitamin C product, by using one during the day and one at night or using them every other day, depending on your specific routine and skin’s tolerance.

Are peptides good for ageing skin? What product should someone with ageing skin use?

Peptides help ageing skin by reinforcing the substances in skin’s layers that keep it strong and full. Using peptides in skin care results in visibly fewer wrinkles, a plumper look and feel and a softer, smoother texture.

While peptides are beneficial for skin at all ages, someone experiencing more advanced signs of ageing will benefit most from using a peptide serum or booster formulated with a broad mix of peptides and/or a product that combines them with other active ingredients, such as peptides and retinol or peptides and vitamin C.
