What is synthetic sunscreen?

Synthetic sunscreen features lab-created compounds that protect skin by deflecting and scattering UV rays, essentially “deactivating” them. They include such safe, research-proven ingredients as avobenzone and octinoxate.

Synthetic sunscreen ingredients are sometimes called “chemical” sunscreen actives, but anything that’s a compound (and that includes water and zinc oxide) is a chemical! The term synthetic is much more accurate.
